Who We Are
Mains Bénies (pronounced Meh-Bene) is a French term meaning “blessed hands.” It’s a name rooted in love, purpose, and craftsmanship, given to our founder, Winnie, by a close friend, and it reflects the heart behind everything we do.
Born from a lineage of tailors and seamstresses, Winnie was introduced to sewing at an early age. From fabric shopping trips with her mother and aunt to learning garment construction, creativity was always part of the foundation. In 2014, she received her mother’s vintage sewing machine, originally intended for clothing alterations. What began as a practical solution for achieving the right fit quickly grew into a passion for precision, detail, and personalized craftsmanship.
As alteration projects expanded, family and friends began requesting custom handmade and embroidered items that reflected their personalities, milestones, and stories. What started as word-of-mouth requests naturally evolved into trusted, repeat custom work.
In 2020, during a season of unexpected job loss and global uncertainty, Mains Bénies Customs took deeper root. Creating during the pandemic became a way to inspire hope and encouragement, both within the community and at home. That season awakened a shared purpose to create designs that uplift, motivate, and bring meaning. Through prayer and obedience, it became clear this work was more than creativity; it was a calling.
Today, Mains Bénies Customs is a custom embroidery, sewing, and alterations studio serving Dover, Delaware and surrounding areas, helping clients bring their vision to life without the stress.
